Nigerian Idols train leaves Port Harcourt for Enugu

It was screams and tears of both sadness and glee in Port Harcourt as the garden city played host to Nigeria’s biggest music reality show. From Friday October 14 to Sunday 16 October, the city of Port Harcourt stood still as thousands of musical talent trooped in to take a shot at fame and the $100, 000 prize by auditioning for Season 2 of Nigerian Idol.

Day one started with a big bang as the very first contestants brought their best game forward; some made the cut while others left in disappointment. Day two was even tougher for the contestants as the competition heated up. In remarks after the auditions, Idol judge Yinka Davies said, “We discovered incredible musicians in Port Harcourt; I am intrigued by the talent that is in this city.”

The contestants were also treated to a mini Idol concert after auditions on day two. DJ Zeez, Efa, and Frank D’Nero took to the stage, performing their hit tunes to the admiration of the crowd. The highlight of the concert was the performance by Dat Nig.g.a Raw who gave the charged crowd a dose of his urban hit ‘Obodo’ and had them dance to the song in a wide playground circle.

The auditions which witnessed eclectic tunes also had some interesting characters turn up. One of such personalities had such a stunning voice that Idol judge, Charly Boy, could not help giving a standing ovation.

Next stop is Enugu where preparations are already in top gear for the auditions coming up on 28 and 29th of October. “The Port Harcourt auditions went without a hitch; we are looking forward to Enugu. In fact, it was at Enugu that we had our first glimpse of the Yeka Onka, the first ever Nigerian Idol, we are expecting no less this time around, said Rotimi Pedro, Executive Producer of Nigerian Idol.
