Nollywood has a great selection of films and series coming out this August to keep viewers glued to their TV screens. Exploring all genres, from comedy to action to romance and even thrillers.
These are some of the films and series you should look out for this August.
- Colours of Fire (August 7th)
Set in an epic fantasy land ruled by a powerful kingdom and ancient tradition, a warrior’s mission to protect his people leads him to unearth a secret that could change the fate of two clans forever.
It was directed by Niyi Akinmolayan and stars Osas Ighodaro, Uzor Arukwe, Mercy Aigbe, Gabriel Afolayan, Femi Branch, and Ibrahim Chatta.
“Colours of Fire” was released to cinemas in 2025 and will now be available for streaming on Netflix and Kava.
- Zikoko Life 2: A Happy Ending (August 8th)
A young woman’s decision to move to Lagos in search of a better life has her discovering that the opportunities she comes in contact with come with difficult choices, emotional turmoil and complicated relationships.
The film stars Ruby Okezie, Anne Njemanze, and Ifeoma Obinwa.
- Sweet 16 (August 14th)
A young and sassy girl must use her sass to save her village after her parents trick her into spending the summer there.
What started out as a punishment soon becomes a path toward her redemption, self-discovery, community, and acceptance of responsibility. “Sweet 16) stars Denrele Edun, Uche Jombo, Kalu Ikeagwu, Mercy Aigbe, Alexx Ekubo, and Emeka Nwagbaraocha.
- A Father’s Secret (August 21st)
A woman who has fought her way through heartbreak and hardship finds her life turned upside down when her disappearing father returns, forcing her to confront secrets that have the potential to change everything she thought she knew about family and love.
Directed by Adeoluwa Owu, the film stars Bryan Boomba, Timini Egbuson, Princess Demodel, Fae Olumide, and Olukemi Gold Aluko.
- Alahun: The Weaver (August 21st)
This film follows the life of a man who faces mockery for his love of weaving baskets and plaiting hair in a society that believes the role is for women and not men.
His refusal to abandon his passion leads him on a mystical journey that could determine the fate of his kingdom. Directed by Dare Olaitan, it stars Odunlade Adekola, Moshood Fattah, Lateef Adedimeji, Ibrahim Chatta, Kunle Remi, Fathia Williams, and Omowunmi Dada.
- Ikenga (August 21st)
Set as an Igbo epic thriller, this film follows the lives of individuals whose thirst for power leads them to fall into a dangerous spiritual conflict with enormous consequences.
The cast members are Zubby Michael, Jide Kene Achufusi, Nkem Owoh, Patience Ozokwor, Pete Edochie, Regina Daniels, and Beverly Osu.
- Abujaa (August 21st)
As a kingdom begins to face uncertainty about its future due to questions about the future of its throne, the people closest to the palace are forced to decide what they are willing to sacrifice to protect the people and their own legacy.
It was co-directed by Allwell Ademola and Adebayo Tijani, and the cast features Muyiwa Ademola, Omowunmi Dada, Tina Mba, Sola Sobowale, Adebayo Salami, Fathia Balogun, Jide Kosoko, and Yinka Quadri.
- King Kosoko (August 28th)
As a respected Yoruba family begins to fall apart at the emergence of old secrets and inheritance issues, long-standing relationships are tested as family members get into conflict to protect their names and personal interests.
“King Kosoko” was directed by Femi Adebayo and stars Jide Kosoko, Odunlade Adekola, Tina Mba, Gabriel Afolayan, Fathia Balogun, and Yinka Quadri.
- The Night of June 7th (August 28th)
This is a revisitation of the events surrounding the death of six young Nigerians in Abuja and the questions that have been left unanswered since their death.
Directed by Toka Mcbaror, it stars Ali Nuhu, Gideon Okeke, Femi Branch, and Charles Lenny.
