Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, the Minister of State for Defence has called on Governor Babatunde Fashola to tread softly on the crisis rocking the Lagos State University (LASU) over the increase in tuition fees.

According to Obanikoro, Fashola must adopt a more empathetic approach to solving the said crisis urging him to “expedite action in resolving the crisis.”

Obanikoro said he “understands the implication of the protracted LASU crisis on the psyche of the young undergraduates of the institution.”

He called on Fashola “to adopt a more empathetic and people-friendly disposition towards resolving the tuition fee crisis.”

Obanikoro commended the government of Lagos on its efforts at bringing lasting solution to the crisis and also urged the affected students to remain peaceful and civil while conveying their agitations.

“In our quest to build a new Lagos State that is the pride of Nigeria, real development must be approximated by how much we are willing to invest in the education of our youth even as we also focus on infrastructure development.

“While Senator Obanikoro commends the efforts of Governor Fashola so far in finding a lasting solution to the crisis, he also admonishes all protesting students of LASU to remain peaceful and civil in their agitation,” the minister said.

Several students of the Lagos State University have expressed their opposition to the exponential increase in tuition fees calling for a downward review of the fees.

Protesting students have taken over the Ikeja, Lagos office of the governor vowing not to leave until their demands are met.
