Wunmi was a young and beautiful girl starting her first year as an undergraduate at one of the best universities in the country. She is the average ‘good girl’ that never does a thing without informing her parents– until some weeks back when she attended a party without letting them know. She knew they wouldn’t approve. Her roommate, Folake, was taking her turn cleaning up their shared toilet as Wunmi dressed up for her afternoon lectures.

Wunmi suddenly felt a “strange feeling” build up in her stomach. She ran to the toilet, pushed Folake aside as her breakfast rushed up her throat. She emptied her stomach, messing up the toilet bowl. The retching left her roommate really scared.

“Are you okay?” Folake asked

“I don’t think so. I guess I must have eaten something not good for my stomach. I’ve been having a strange feverish feeling. I’ve also been feeling nauseous of late” Wunmi replied.

Wunmi turned around and noticed a startled look on her roommate’s face. “Whats up with that look on your face? What’s wrong?” Wunmi said after a deep breath.

“I think you’re pregnant” Folake said.

Wunmi’s face took a new, ugly shape. “WHAT!! Its a lie! You just said that to see how I’ll react right?” She tried to smile…but failed.

“Didn’t you ever attend a Secondary school? Folake asked. “Weren’t you ever taught the symptoms of pregnancy?”

“What…are..are… you trying to say?” Wunmi stammered.

“Hmm, don’t tell me Kolade did this to you. I saw you guys at the “FRESHERS PARTY”. Its just three weeks ago” Folake said with questioning look on her face. Wunmi tried to remember what happened that night she was with Kolade her boyfriend. She remembered the few drinks she had with him and the short walk away from the venue of the party. Kolade, a 300 level Law student, had made her drink a cup of chilled funny tasting strawberry wine in a guest house outside the Campus..

“I can’t remember, I think Kolade doped me” Tears welled up in her eyes.

After the abortion… The news of Wunmi’s death was the talk of the school for over two weeks. No one could believe the rumors that Wunmi, a beautiful, tall and intelligent student died of an abortion-gone-wrong, after spending just about a month in the university system. Police investigations confirmed that Wunmi died of abortion complications. Folake, her roommate also confessed that she had taken Wunmi to a quack doctor for an abortion.
