Opinion: What’s the fuss about Akwa Ibom political whore, Aniekan Willie Akpan?

By Peters Ikpe

In what appears to be another political pandering if not hullabaloo, some commentators of the new waived the fuss flag since Saturday in a bid to question the police action against an infamous political prostitute of our time, Mr. Aniekan Willie Akpan.

I’ve previously dedicated some moments in the past to address issues bothering on this Trojan Horse who basically thinks of himself alone and nobody else. This political wanderer was in PDP, but when his narcissistic interest was not granted, he skydived to ACN now APC. In 2011, in the heels of the gubernatorial election tribunal and court wrangling between former Governor Akpabio and Chief Akpan Udoeghe, Mr Aniekan Akpan who was then State chairman of ACN did the unthinkable.

He did not only abandoned Chief Udoeghe in the high sea, he resigned his position and joined PDP in order to grab the caretaker committee chairmanship position of Eket LGA, where he later contested a rather hogwash and farcical election to become the executive chairman of Eket; a position he held for more than four years. Aniekan Akpan thrives on chicanery, betrayal and subterfuge.

These traits are commonplace to this Okon-Eket born politician who leaves no stone unturned in reenacting them whenever the least opportunity plays out.

In 2015, during the apex court case between Umana Okon Umana and Udom Emmauel, given the tense, election rerun anxiety, he hankered for his usual egotistical and self-centered quest for power. What did he do? He outlined endless demands to Deacon Udom Emmauel which included but not limited to grabbing the position of a commissioner, billions of Naira contract and a privilege to chose a candidate of his own choice for Eket LGA.

This outrageous demand did not go down well with other politicians of the PDP equation, as they urged Udom not to yield to such criminal grandiosity. As soon as he discovered that he was shoved off, he beseeched the head of the Akwa Ibom brooms carriers Association and gubernatorial candidate for APC, Mr Umana Umana, demanding N2 billion and a recommendation to the presidency for appointments.

As Mr. Umana who was so desperate to become governor obliged and succumbed to his whims and caprices, he rushed to the Planet FM Radio to take swipe at governor Emmanuel with unsubstantiated claims of the collecting N2 billion monthly for security vote.

STAGING A COME BACK

Recently, when rumors of cabinet reshuffle flies the air, the political thin god of Okon-Eket and APC mouth-water recalibrated his political status and decided to stage a comeback to PPD. He broached some big wigs in the PDP where he again made his outlandish demand as a conditio sine qua non before he could return to PDP.

His staggering condition met a brick wall as it piqued some of the people in PDP stakeholders’ fold who saw this as mere rubbish and daylight robbery, hence, they told him off.

Having suffered another setback, he stormed the Planet FM Radio, this time round to replay his outlandish but convoluted lies and misrepresentation about the Udom Emmanuel-led administration. With mountainous lies being ditched out to the astonishment of the general public and the security agencies, the police of Uruan division visited the radio station to invite Akpan for explanation, the APC noise fingerlings went on social media to cast aspersions on Governor Udom Emmauel for a federal government agency’s action.

What baffles me much is that these APC foot soldiers feel it’s inappropriate for the police to investigate an issue of public concern brought forward by an APC chieftain, but were very much comfortable with the Directorate of Secret Services (DSS) to have invaded the Akwa Ibom government house at the inception of a new administration.

I cannot really get the calculus of these anti-Udom warlords who are actually silent with regards to the economic failures of the Buhari government in the face of mounting resentment generated by biting hard and failed “change promises.”

While I wish and pray for President Buhari to succeed in revamping the nation’s economy, you cannot expect me to wish Governor Udom the opposite. We have walked past the era of elections campaign which is usually characterized by all sorts of name-calling, smear campaign, deliberate mudslinging and even fabricated lies to score cheap political points.

I also wish we could think of how we can contribute our quotas to make our states and nation great again instead of running meaningless campaign of calumny

As for Aniekan Willie Akpan, the self-seeking, narcissistic and greedy political whore, if the police didn’t succeed in getting him to explain and back up his claims, can they please, do so now?

A man who flip-flops, back-stabs and plays the Judas Iscariot all the times to attain his personal, political interests does not deserve any sympathy or attention for that matter.
