PDP zoning committee to submit report in favor of Ali Modu Sheriff

Ahead of its May 21 national convention in Port Harcourt, the National Executive Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party will on Thursday, April 28 receive the recommendations of the party’s zoning committee.

The NEC is expected to also ratify the submission of the zoning committee upon receipt.

Speaking to newsmen in Abuja at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, the chairman of the zoning committee, Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State revealed that the task assigned to the committee had been concluded and its recommendations due to be submitted today, Thursday, April 28.

The governor however, refused to reveal details of the recommendations decided upon by the committee stating firmly that disclosure would not be made until the NEC receives the recommendations.

Udom also revealed that the decisions on the zoning arrangement were unanimously decided upon by the members of the committee and there was no disagreeing voice.

He said: “We all came out of the meeting singing from the same hymn book. We are all in agreement. But we cannot disclose our recommendations now until we have submitted same to the NEC. All I can tell you is that we now have a stronger party.”

Meanwhile, reports suggest that the current chairman of the party, Ali Modu Sheriff, who has been the centre of a leadership controversy within the party since his appointment, is set to be one of the key beneficiaries of the zoning arrangement.

According to a source, the chairmanship of the party was zoned to the North-East, where Sheriff is from as well as where he seems to wield a gargantuan political superiority.

Also, if the indications turn out to be anywhere near reality, then the PDP would have also zoned its presidential ticket for 2019 to the North.
