Drama ensues in Rivers State as House of Assembly moves to impeach Governor Fubara

The Rivers State House of Assembly is against Governor Siminalayi Fubara as it moves to impeach the governor.

The battle began when the cold blood ran between Fubara and Nyesom Wike, the FCT minister. The governor said he believed that he had done nothing wrong that would demand his impeachment as 24 out of 32 lawmakers of the Assembly have decided to impeach him.

The ‘Anti-Fubara’ lawmakers removed Edinson Ehie, the House Majority Leader, who supported Fubara. Protests by the state’s ‘youths’ ensued shortly after the removal of Edinson.

Naira appreciates against the US Dollar and trades for ₦993/$

The Naira has begun seeing visible gains against the USD as it rose to an all-time high of ₦1,300/$ last Friday.

However, in a recent turn of events, the Naira has gained significantly against the foreign currency, trading at ₦1,150/$ and ₦993/$ as of October 30.

This result comes into play following the announcement of the presidency to bring back the naira to a fair price against the dollar by December 2023.

FEC endorses ₦2.17 trillion for the 2023 Supplementary Budget

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved ₦2.17 trillion as a Supplementary Budget for 2023, making it the second time this year.

Alhaji Atiku Bagudu, the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, announced this decision after the Council’s meeting at the President’s State House.

According to the minister, ₦605 billion was to be spent on defence and security, ₦300 billion would be spent on the repair of bridges, ₦210 billion would be used to pay wage fees of civil servants, ₦400 billion would be used as cash transfers for less privileged households, and the rest of the budgets were broken down to journalists as he addressed the decision of the FEC.

Canada declares new rules for emigrating Nigerians

The Canadian government has announced new regulations for Nigerians and other countries coming to study in the country.

The adjustments to the International Student Program state that post-secondary designated learning institutions (DLI) will be required to confirm every applicant’s letter of acceptance directly with IRCC.

Published on the Canadian immigration website was a statement by the Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship, Honourable Marc Miller; he claimed that these new regulations were set to protect the students from fraud.

“This new, enhanced verification process will help protect prospective students from letter‑of‑acceptance fraud and help them avoid similar problems that some students faced earlier this year due to fraud investigations,” the statement reads.

The new rules are set to be implemented starting from December 1 2023.

Lagos State announces 3-year-plan for new transport programme

Lagos State is Nigeria’s economic centre as the state continues to attract investors and increase its GDP.

The Lagos State government announced a new transport system initiative called the ‘Bus Industry Transition Programme’ (BITP).

This initiative is aimed at transforming the transport bus industry and creating a fresh business plan that supports current bus operators and their routes within the state.

This programme is a method of controlling the menace caused by the yellow buses in Lagos State.
