The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), George Sekibo winner of the rerun election in Rivers east senatorial district.

Sekibo’s victory was announced on Monday in Port Harcourt by Oji Ekumankama, returning officer of the election.

Sekibo polled 93,098 votes ahead of Andrew Uchendu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who had 34,193 votes.

The PDP congratulated Sekibo on his victory via its Twitter account.
