Senate judiciary committee set to subpoena Manafort’s document

Former President Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort who has been at the centre of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russia meddling into the 2016 election is again at the eye of the Senate.

According to the panel’s top Democrats, the Senate Judiciary Committee will subpoena documents from the business mogul as part of its ongoing Russia investigation.

Speaking to The Washington Post, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) said the committee has reached an agreement to subpoena documents from Manafort, but wouldn’t specify what the documents relate to.

The Senate committee had earlier in July subpoenaed Manafort to testify publicly in an interview. But, The Post reports that Manafort has been unresponsive to requests from the Judiciary Committee in recent weeks.

“We will not issue subpoenas for them tonight requiring their presence at Wednesday’s hearing but reserve the right to do so in the future,” Feinstein and Grassley said in July.

Investigations revealed last week that Manafort offered a Russian billionaire private briefings on the 2016 race during the election which he has since denied, saying the meeting was not related to the elections.

Manafort whose house was raided last July by the FBI said last month that he was cooperating with all inquiries, including the Judiciary Committee investigation.

His spokesperson said in August, “Mr. Manafort has consistently cooperated with law enforcement and other serious inquiries and did so on this occasion as well”.
