Sitting governors, expected candidates, dominate @APCNigeria primaries

The APC primaries across the country were dominated by landslide victories for leading candidates and sitting state governors. In Sokoto state, the speaker of the Federal House of Representatives Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, emerged winner with over 70% of the votes.

Sitting Oyo State governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, has emerged winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship primary in the state. Ajimobi polled 4662 votes and defeated Dr. Ayobami Adesina, the son of a predecessor of his, the late Lam Adesina, who managed only 22 votes. In Kwara, incumbent Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed won the primary with 3,016 votes. In Yobe, incumbent Governor, Ibrahim Gaidam emerged winner. In Nasarawa, incumbent Tanko Al-Makura polled 1,630 votes to emerge winner.

In Rivers State, Dakuku Peterside, emerged with 3,773 votes. In Ogun State, incumbent governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun won the ticket with 3,554. In Enugu state, Okey Ezea emerged the APC’s candidate after Ifeanyi Asogwa withdrew. In Delta, Otega Emerhor beat Fidelis Tilije by 3,584 votes to 195 votes. In Akwa Ibom, former SSG, Umanah O. Umanah emerged winner.

In Lagos, Akinwunmi Ambode, the preferred candidate of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, one of the leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is likely to emerge winner ahead of Senator Ganiyu Solomom after Mr. Olasupo Sasore, SAN, the preferred candidate of the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, SAN, stormed out of the venue of the primary in protest alongside Obafemi Hamzat, Lanre Ope, Tola Kasali, and Lekan Pitan. Ganiyu Solomon left the venue when voting was over as youths and delegates surrounded Ambode in celebration. Lagos State Governor, Mr Fashola and Asiwaju Tinubu did not attend the primary. Results in Lagos, Kano and Kaduna have not been announced as of the time of writing this report.

In Cross River state, the primary was postponed till Saturday.
