South African Special: Mandla, Ndaba, Mbusu or Andile – Who’s the baby daddy?

by Doyin Jaiyesimi

DNA tests have revealed that Mandla Mandela is not the father of the child which was born to him by his ex-wife, Anais Grimaud. It is believed that the baby was born to one of Mandla’s brothers, although it is not yet known which of the brothers is responsible.

Mandla and Anais relationship has been plagued with drama right from the start. Mandla was accused of bigamy when he got married to Anais while he was still officially married to his first wife. Mandla’s love life became even more complicated when he reportedly married Swazi princess, Nodiyala Mbali Makhathini, last year.

Nothing had been said about the status of Mandla and Anais’ marriage until a statement was issued on Mandla’s behalf, revealing that the rocky marriage has come to an end.

The statement reads:

“The Mandela family has sent my wife Nkosikazi Nobubele Mandela (nee Anais Grimaud) back to her home after it was discovered she has been having an affair with one of my brothers.

I confirm this affair resulted in a son that Nkosikazi Nobubele gave birth to in 2011. I can also confirm DNA tests conducted have confirmed the child is not mine.

The revelation of this affair has come as a shock to me and the rest of my family. It has been made more painful because it is my own brother who is at the centre of the crisis.”

Although the statement did not reveal the identity of the father, Ndaba Mandela has said that the child is not his. “Nobody knows who the father is, but I can confidently confirm that it was not me” he said in The Sowetan. “Mandla told me that he was not the father. She left because of their problems; the child’s paternity was probably one of the main reasons. I have never touched her in a physical or sexual way.”

Mandla is the first son of Makgatho Lewanika Mandela, by Ndaba, Mbusu and Andile.

They should please keep this away from Madiba.
