Soyombo Ayomikun: Dear Sanusi Lamido, Nigeria loves you (Poetry)

by Dr. Soyombo Ayomikun

Sanusi-Lamido-Sanusi

There must be a drummer beneath the waters. Seeing my president put up some dance steps. I can’t but wonder who the drummers are

  Each night I now sleep

With clouds of uncertainties enveloping me

Scared of what my president will do next

A man supposed to be a mentor & friend

   A woman zapped our wealth

In the name of buying bullet-proof boxes on wheels

We screamed for her to be removed

He eventually did, making us smile

  Our budding smiles

  Suddenly got extinguished

When the point man of our apex bank

  Got suspended amidst malodorous explanations

When a leaf floating on a river keeps dancing

There must be a drummer beneath the waters

Seeing my president put up some dance steps

I can’t but wonder who the drummers are

We can’t for now fully understand the chaos in the North

Chaos inducing darkness all over our land

Then my president chose to snuff out a light

A soul who chose to stand for the truth

*Occasionally my president makes moves

  That causes me to smile

  However,your latest actions are bile-inducing

  Nigeria is really not smiling

*I know Sanusi is deeply hurt at the moment

As in exchange for honour he’s being despised

By a leader he sacrificed all to serve

  Even his very life

*Now SLS has been placed on the cross

They’ve gathered to nail him without pity

They should not just forget that resurrection is coming

  Nigeria,very soon,shall be free

*SLS, in persecution we’ve found your worth

We now cherish your heart the more

We  can’t but embrace the gift you are

Be strong as truth will prevail

*We won’t forget you said

  “Truth can never be suspended”

The messenger may be snuffed out

But the flames of truth will keep burning in our hearts

*Nigeria loves you SLS

As for the poor dying of hunger you spoke

You stood to defend the weak

You laboured to guard our pride

*Nigeria loves you SLS

For your rare bravery in the face of darkness

Shed no tears as they scream  “crucify him”

Glory cometh, Glory cometh… Nigeria will at the end be healed
