Stephanie’s battle against VVF

by Chi ibe

According to the Fistula Foundation, Obstetric Fistula the most common type of Vesico Vaginal Fistula, is the most devastating of all childbirth injuries.  An obstetric fistula develops when blood supply to the tissues of the vagina and the bladder (and/or rectum) is cut off during prolonged obstructed labor. The tissues die and a hole forms through which urine and/or faeces pass uncontrollably. Women who develop fistulas are often abandoned – left to live in isolation.

In the new edition of Poise Magazine, actress Stephanie Okereke draws attention to Vesico Vaginal Fistula, sharing the passionate work she’s been putting in to improve the lives of victims of VVF in collaboration with first ladies in Northern Nigeria where VVF is prevalent.

  1. Great work, Stephanie!

  2. Ms. okereke is positioning herself well for the year. vvf is a serious case; giving it a face is commendable

  3. well done. It must be one of the worst things dat can happen to a woman.

  4. no matter what we may think of nollywood and its major professional blunders, the industry is grooming pearls. Stephanie, like Genevieve, is an international brand. iit's almost impossible to believe they came out of this 'alaba business'. it shows that. vvf needs more than just one celeb, we need a flock of them to stomp to d house of assembly and ask that these silly rich men stop marrying young girls below 15, esp in the north

  5. OMG! she looks like an angel. so pretty. thumbs up, girl.

  6. isnt there a way we can zoom in and read the print? I like what she has done with her brand, making positive impact in society.

  7. So many magazines. cant keep up abeg. but would love to read this. I think since this VVF is such a serious ailment Stephanie should use a magazine with wider reach to spread her effort. nonetheless, I am loving this simple, sweet african look!

  8. this is one of the most beautiful pictures of Stephanie. so natural! You should briad your hair more. it suits her so well. i only started hearing of VVF recently, still do not understand the details of it. where can we buy Poise magazine?

  9. i served (NYSC) in the north and i know how real VVF is. we may not grasp the effect of the disease here in the south/west. it's the worst trauma for a woman! it's a good thing Stehanie is doing. we need a wider celebrity endorsement of support for the ailment. but for leading a road less travelled, i greet Ms. Okereke

  10. wow! Stephanie is truly the african cinderella. such fresh beauty! its good to see stars making good effort at empowering the society. I love this her african designs. so different!

  11. great work Stephanie! you are an inspiration to young people!
