Steve Scalise discharged from hospital after almost 6 weeks

House Majority Whip Steve Scalise was discharged from the hospital Tuesday and has been moved to an intensive inpatient rehabilitation facility.

In a statement released by MedStar Washington Hospital Center Wednesday, “Congressman Steve Scalise has made excellent progress in his recovery from a life-threatening gunshot wound six weeks ago”. Scalise and four others were shot and injured during a congressional baseball practice in Virginia.

“He is in good spirits and is looking forward to his return to work once he completes rehabilitation,” the statement reads. “He and his family are grateful for the care he received from the trauma team as well as the other doctors, nurses, and staff of MedStar Washington Hospital Center. The family also appreciates the outpouring of prayers and support during this time.”

In the past six weeks, Scalise has undergone multiple surgeries for his injuries and was scheduled to move to the rehabilitation facility but he contracted an infection and was readmitted to the intensive care unit early this month.
