Commercial drivers and motorists on Nigerian roads have been warned to stop relying on charms while driving.

The Command’s Head of Operations, Cecilia Alao of the Ogun State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) spoke during a workshop organised by the Tai Solarin College of Education, and Tertiary Education Fund for the members of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria.

The theme of the workshop was, ‘Road Safety Education: Intervention for Road Accident Prevention in Ogun State’, and Alao said that there were a lot of uncertainty as to how effectiveness such mystical powers and charms were.

According to reports, the possession of such supernatural powers and charms would not provide them security and immunity against road crashes.

“Some of you rely on some other powers, and here we have many Alhajis and many pastors. Are we supposed to believe in other powers than that of God? But some rely on other powers and do you know that when accidents occurred, we normally pick those charms one after the other… We’ll find some of the charms strapped on the waist or arms of the victims whenever accidents occur. Some of such charms are even tied to the steering by some drivers. What is the efficacy of such charms? Do those charms work at all?” she said.

She said to prevent road accidents drivers should keep to traffic rules and regulations.
