We are taking notes of debates on restructuring – Osinbajo

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo has said the Federal Government is working on policies that will address issues around restructuring in the country.

Osinbajo said this on Thursday in Abuja at the official presentation of a book, ‘Nigeria: The restructuring controversy,’ written by the Chairman of the Police Service Commission, Dr. Mike Okiro.

The acting President, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Political Matters, Senator Babafemi Ojudu said the Federal Government was taking notes on the restructuring debates.

Osinbajo said Nigerians were not known for violence, noting that even during the annulment of the June 12,1993 election, no one resorted to violence.

He said, “Even at the height of the controversy surrounding the annulment of the June 12 election, we shouted, we demonstrated, we protested, but we never, at any time, stood up against one another. So, it is a beautiful thing that we are looking at issues of restructuring.

“What we are, however, against is a situation whereby anyone of us will rise up and say they are against the other person. This is not the character of our people in this country.

“We can assure you that all of the contributions being made across the country, whether from the North, from the South-South, South-East or South-West, the government of President Muhammadu Buhari is taking note of all the contributions you are making and very soon, we are going to come out with policies that will take care of some of the issues that are germane to this debate about restructuring.”

He added, “Many have died in the course of fighting for one Nigeria; therefore, we cannot afford to go back to issues that were resolved during the Nigerian Civil War.

“What we can do is what we are doing as we have gathered here today: Writing books, debating and arguing among ourselves and in the process of debate, we would find solutions to our problems.”
