[The Media Blog] BBC Appoints Toyosi Ogunseye as Head of Language Services for West Africa

In a bid to continue its expansion in Africa, the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) World Service has appointed Toyosi Ogunseye as the head of Language Services for West Africa. Ogunseye is the Editor of Sunday Punch and her appointment will take effect from January 1, 2018 and she will be based in Lagos, managing Afrique, Hausa, Igbo, Pidgin and Yoruba.

Ogunseye, who is an award-winning journalist with a passion for investigating reporting, is the first female editor in the 45 year history of The Punch Newspapers. She has won over 30 awards and was the first Nigerian to win the prestigious Knight International Journalism award.

A fellow of President Barack Obama’s Young African Leaders Initiative who currently sits on the board of the World Editors Forum, Ogunseye holds an MSc in Media and Communication and she’s presently studying for a PhD in Politics and International Relations at the University of Leicester.

“I’m excited about this new role and I look forward to working with BBC’s amazing journalist in the region,” Ogunseye said, in response to her appointment as Head of West Africa for the BBC, “I have no doubt that we will continue to produce the quality of journalism that our audiences love us for.”
