A heavy downpour that brought about lightning and thunder, struck 42-year-old Mallam Mohammed Jibo and killed him on the spot on Saturday, in Niger state.
According to a resident, “The victim told his family members that he was going for his usual football practice at the police barrack football pitch. It was while he was on the field that thunder struck him dead.”
Apparently, other footballers were affected by the thunderclaps, but it was only Muhammed that fell and hit his forehead against the ground.
People rushed to try and save him but to no avail.
The elder brother of the deceased, Alhaji Usman Jibo, spoke on behalf of the family, saying, “I have lost some relatives and close ones in the past, but the death of Mohammed is the most shocking one that will not depart from me. He was very close to me.”
