TICKER: Explosion kills five in Maiduguri

An explosive devise targeted at the officers of the Joint Task Force, JTF, patrol vehicle by suspected Islamist sect members, Boko Haram, on Tuesday left Five persons dead in Lagos Street, Maiduguri, Borno State.

An officer with the JTF patrol team was among the deceased while four other officers sustained seriously injuries.

The security personnel were on a routine check in the metropolis when the incident occurred, leaving the patrol vehicle burnt to the ground while the military men scampered for safety.

A fire service staff at the scene of the incident who spoke on condition of anonymity confirmed that the body of the deceased officer was seen lying on the ground, as well as many others who were seen in the pool of their blood.

The hit which came less than 24 hours after the dreaded Islamist sect, Boko Haram announced it was going to restrategise and continue its insurgence against the Nigerian government caused chaos as people were seen scampering for safety.

The JTF spokesperson, Lt. Col. Sagir Musa said that he was unaware of the incident but confirmed there was an explosion in the area.

He however, promised to give more information to newsmen regarding the attack.

Meanwhile, in Damboa area of the state four people were also reportedly shot dead by unknown gunmen.
