A man threw acid in his daughter’s face in an attack that shocked her neighborhood. Jerome Lynch, a 69-year old man, accused his daughter of abusing him and attacked her in a way that had her screaming in the street as her skin peeled off her face.
The man left the room abruptly as his daughter was watching television and then returned with a cup of what she thought was water. He then threw it in her face, according to the story that the woman told her cousin.
“You could see the smoke coming off her body,” said a neighbor, Clarissa Shakespeare. “Everyone was just traumatized and scared. Her skin looked like melting wax.”
People poured water on the woman and helped her get out of her burning clothes. The woman’s father has been arrested for assault. Jerome’s daughter, Darlene Lynch, has been her father’s caregiver for years. He has had mental problems lately, according to a relative.
Darlene may lose her left eye because of the attack.
“(Darlene is) asking why her father did this. She doesn’t understand,” said a cousin, Dominique Goodwin.
