TICKER: Mass hysteria as pet snake escapes from home (Photos)

PANICKED locals refused to leave their homes after the escape of a schoolgirl’s pet snake.

Jasmin Millar’s neighbours won’t even use the LOOin case Elwood the 3½ft python comes round the U-bend.

Jasmin, ten, and her dad Gary, 47, have scoured surrounding streets in vain since Elwood fled through a window at their home. They fear the £400 Orange Ghost Royal Ball breed could die of cold unless they find him soon.

He crawled free in Arbroath on Tuesday after shedding his skin.

And although Elwood is non-venomous, locals have vowed to stay indoors until the reptile is located.

One revealed online she would not use her toilet in case he “slithered up to bite her”.

Gary said: “The lady next door says if she finds it we’ll all hear the scream first.

“We’ve checked every nook and cranny in the house but Elwood has just disappeared.”

Jasmin, who has another python, is gutted she can no longer show the pair to school chums.

Gary went on: “She’s been out looking for him with a pal. She is not happy.”

He urged anyone who finds the yellow and brown snake not to harm him. He added: “Elwood is completely harmless.”

A Scottish SPCA spokewoman said: “Snakes don’t last long in the cold. Anyone who finds one should contact us.”
