R&B diva Patti LaBelle has settled a dispute involving a woman and her child for $100,000, reports say. In 2010, the diva rented a Trump Place apartment for three months in Manhattan as she performed in the “Fela!” broadway musical, in which she made $50,000/week.

The child’s mother plans to donate the money from the settlement to a children’s cancer fund. “This is an opportunity for Patti LaBelle to help a lot of children, and I feel good about that,” she said. Details outlining why LaBelle became irate are unclear. The mother and the husband’s attorney said LaBelle opted to settle the case before even being deposed. He noted the difficulty that LaBelle would have faced at trial, when he would have brought the little girl into court and said, “That mean woman over there, with the 300-pound bodyguard, was yelling at her.” “The jury would be shaking their heads,” he said.

This isn’t LaBelle’s first run-in with the law. In June 2011 a West Point cadet filed civil suit against LaBelle after he was allegedly assaulted by her bodyguards at Bush Intercontinental Airport, Houston in March. Houston police department is reviewing the conduct of officers responding to the incident after they posed for photographs with the singer, and have also filed assault charges against members of her entourage and warrants were issued. In August 2011, the cadet, who had initially been suspended from West Point for his involvement in the altercation, was allowed back in West Point. LaBelle has countersued alleging the cadet was drunk and using racial slurs.
