TICKER: Sheila Solarin buried beside husband’s grave

The remains of Sheila Solarin, 88, deceased wife of late Tai Solarin, were on Friday buried beside the tomb of her husband at Ikenne town of Ogun State.

The burial service of the educationist earlier took place at the Mayflower School Compound, and was conducted by the Methodist Church of Nigeria.

Hundreds of guests from within and outside Nigeria defiled the downpour to bid the deceased a final farewell.

The old students of Mayflower School, founded by the deceased and her late husband, were dressed in similar Ankara fabrics for the ceremony.

The officiating minister at the service, Joseph Osifuwa, in his sermon said the deceased’s lifestyle was worth emulating. He said the late Mrs. Solarin lived a fulfilled life.

“Solarin knew her purpose and fulfilled it.

‘She finished her course. Whatever position one occupies, it is meant to fulfill a purpose of God,” the preacher emphasised.

Among those who read tributes at the service include the Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun; Yoruba leader, Olanihun Ajayi; and the Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko who was represented by one of his aides, an old student of the school.

The first child of the deceased, Corin Solarin, who expressed appreciation to guests after the funeral service, however, said the interment was to be a private family affair. The interment was done away from the attendees.
