Chicago has been the scene of the worst gang and drug related violence this year. Sadly, the ages of those slain have gotten younger and younger, among the youngest being a 7 year old girl who was shot while selling candy outside her home.

Tragically, we’ve all been witness to the slaying of young children, but what we’ve not seen is very young children becoming an active participant in the violence. But in Washington D.C., a six or seven year old boy is wanted in connection with a group robbery.

WTOP reports: At 8:19 p.m., police tweeted that a black male, 6 to 7 years old, wearing a white shirt and black shorts, was wanted in connection with a robbery in the 4300 block of Nannie Helen Burroughs Avenue in Northeast. The suspect also was described as being 4 feet tall and weighing 100 pounds.

In a news release issued at about 10:15 p.m., police say they were investigating an allegation involving a group of boys ages 7 to 14 that approached a customer at a McDonald’s in the 4300 block of Nannie Helen Burroughs Avenue NE earlier that evening.

The group of boys stole a cell phone and fled the scene.

There is no way to know whether the young boy was just with the group when the robbery occurred or whether he was a willing participant in the crime. Either way, it is disturbing that young boys who should have their attention fixed crayons and first grade are participating in robberies.

It makes you wonder where the parents were while their son was hanging with a gang of older boys and getting into trouble. It also makes you wonder about the future of the black family. This could be just one isolated incident, or it could be a sign of something else.
