TICKER: Woman steals 3-month-old baby from church

A middle-aged woman, Mbatumun Oseh, has lost her three-month-old baby after a stranger offered to help her carry the child during a church service in Benue State.

At St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, Anyiin, in Logo Local Government Area of the state, Oseh handed over her child to an unknown woman who approached her and offered to help her hold the baby to avoid being pushed down by other members of the church during the praise worship session.

It was gathered that Oseh obliged and asked one of her children to sit close to the woman at the back of the church while the service continued. However, the woman allegedly sent the older child to a nearby shop to buy her sachet water, but before the girl came back, the woman had disappeared with the baby.

The little girl raised alarm that attracted church members, who searched the entire premises, but the baby and the woman could not be found.

The parish priest of the church, Bernard Achuku, said the entire parishioners were shocked by the incident, adding that efforts were on to locate the woman and the missing baby. He said the matter has been reported to the police authorities.
