FG announces increase of NYSC members allowance to ₦77,000
The federal government has announced that in increasing the minimum wage to ₦70,000, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) will also enjoy the grace of an increase in their allowance (allawee), raising theirs to ₦77,000 monthly for the duration of their service.
The news was shared on NYSC’s official page across all social media handles, as the FG had instructed for the allowance increment since July 2024.
“The Federal Government has approved the increment of Corps Members’ monthly allowance to Seventy-Seven Thousand Naira (₦77,000) with effect from July 2024,” the statement read in part.
ASUU threatens a 14-day ultimatum over its unpaid salaries
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has issued an additional fourteen-day ultimatum warning to the federal government, demanding that all lingering issues be resolved within 14 days.
ASUU president, Prof Emmanuel Osodeke, expressed frustration over yesterday’s unpaid salaries, complaining about the FG’s negligence towards university lecturers.
“Given the preceding, ASUU resolves to give the Nigerian government another 14 days, in addition to the earlier 21 days, beginning from Monday, September 23, 2024, during which all the lingering issues must have been concretely addressed to the satisfaction of the membership of the union,” he said.
CBN sells $20,000 to BDCs at the rate of ₦1,590/$
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has attempted to boost the foreign exchange market and naira value by selling about $20,000 to Bureau De Change operators at the rate of ₦1,590/$.
Dr. W. J. Kanya, the Acting Director of the Trade and Exchange Department, spread the information and informed all experienced and registered BDCs of the apex bank’s decision to sell $20,000.
The Central Bank of Nigeria also warned that the funds sold to the BDCs are exclusively for eligible clients who require them for invisible transactions such as personal travel, allowances, tuition fees, medical bills, and more.
Minister of Interior demands a probe into alleged bribery in correctional facilities
The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has ordered a diligent investigation into the trending allegations of bribery and corruption within the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS).
The demand for this probe falls in line with the viral allegations made by Vincent Otse (VeryDarkMan) against Falz, Bobrisky, and Femi Falana.
The Minister is not the only one interested in carrying out an investigation on officials within the NCoS, as the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, invited both Bobrisky and VeryDarkMan to question the corrupt officials.
FG proposes NIN and tax for all foreigners
The federal government has suggested that foreigners living in Nigeria should be allowed to acquire National Identification Numbers (NIN) in reference to the National Identity Management Commission Act No. 23, 2007.
The Federal Executive Council (FEC) also proposed an Economy Stabilisation Bill as a means of helping foreigners settle, live and work in Nigeria.
