Update: Miami cannibal did not have human flesh in his stomach

by Tolu Orekoya

The story just keeps getting weirder and weirder. It turns out that Rudy Eugene, the erstwhile cannibal who was supposed to have eaten part of Ronald Poppo’s face had no human tissue in his stomach.

According to information received by the Miami Herald from a law enforcement source, the autopsy of Rudy Eugene did not reveal any tissue of Ronald Poppo’s in his stomach. What they did find was a few undigested pills in his stomach, and the results of the toxicology tests on them may not come out for a few weeks.

The discovery of drugs in Eugene’s stomach makes the scenario that he was under the influence of drugs during the attack a more likely option.

From the Miami Herald:

The autopsy finding that Eugene had no human flesh in his stomach jives with the crime-scene investigation, which found chunks of Poppo’s flesh on the ground, as if they had been spit out. The autopsy also revealed human flesh lodged between the teeth of Eugene, who did not have his two top front teeth, the law enforcement source said. Eugene is known to have lost his two front teeth in an accident as a child.Police found a set of gold teeth in the pockets of his pants discarded on the causeway.
