Vandalism: NNPC confirms Arepo pipeline break

by Funso Ajewole

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has confirmed a break in its system 2B pipeline at the Arepo axis in Owode Local Government Area of Ogun.

Spokesperson, Tumini Green, said that, “the vicious break has caused a fierce inferno which has been raging for hours.”

According to her, the corporation is not happy that “we are back to the same situation”, a week after Andrew Yakubu, the Group Managing Director of the NNPC, paid a visit to the scene of the last fire and pumping of products had resumed.

“It is so sad that vandals and other criminals will not stop breaking into our pipelines; but as a corporation, we are determined to ensure unimpeded flow of petroleum products no matter the odds,” she said.

Green added that fire trucks and engineers from the Pipelines and Products Marketing Company were already on ground in Arepo to put out the raging fire and commence repair work.

The statement called on the public to refrain from hoarding and panic buying of petrol, adding that NNPC would fix the line as soon as possible.

“What we need from the public is vigilance. We must work together as a team to protect and safeguard the pipeline which is a collective national asset,” she concluded.
