Visa applicants, US Citizens | These are the 8 categories of people excluded from Trump’s travel ban

President Trump’s revised travel ban is to take partial effect from 8.pm E.T, Thursday .

Under the ruling by the Supreme Court, foreign nationals have to establish a “credible claim of bona fide relationship” with either an entity e.g a school or a job or a person living in the United States eg. a spouse. Foreign nationals that can’t sufficiently establish such a close relationship, will be banned for 90 days if they are from Libya, Syria, Iran, Somalia, Yemen, and Sudan, and 120 days if they are a refugee fleeing persecution from any country

  1. Current visa holders
  2. Any visa applicant who was in the US as of June 26
  3. US citizens
  4. Legal permanent residents (aka green card holders)
  5. Any refugee already admitted to the US
  6. Dual nationals
  7. Anyone granted asylum
  8. Foreign nationals with “bona fide” family, educational or business tie to the US

According to reports, the most important news is that visas that have already been approved will not be revoked. David Lapan, Homeland Security spokesperson told CNN the revised executive order “would not affect persons who arrive at our ports of entry with legitimate travel documents.”
