In a very bad case of putting one’s foot in one’s mouth, Comedian Dane Cook made a joke about the Aurora theater shooting during a recent set.
Taking to the stage at the Laugh Factory in Los Angeles on Thursday night, exactly one week after the shooting, Cook joked about how the “crappiness” of The Dark Knight Rises possibly led some in the theater to ask to be shot..
“I know that if none of that would have happened, pretty sure that somebody in that theater, about 25 minutes in, realizing it was a piece of crap, was probably like ‘ugh fucking shoot me,” he said, as can be seen in the footage below.
The comedian however apologised, after a large outcry on the internet when the footage of the joke appeared, sharing his condolences with the friends and families of the victims.
“I am devastated by the recent tragedy in Colorado and did not mean to make light of what happened,” he posted to Twitter. “I made a bad judgment call with my material last night and regret making a joke at such a sensitive time. My heart goes out to all of the families and friends of the victims.”
