Falz praises Fela and Plantashun Boiz as role models for singing socially conscious songs

Nigerian rapper Falz has named Fela and Plantashun Boiz the role models who shaped his artistry as a singer who spoke out about social ills.

In the latest episode with the Menisms podcast, Falz revealed that listening to music groups like Trybesmen, Plantashun Boiz and the legendary Fela Kuti helped direct his path to the music industry.

“The people I started listening to were the Trybesmen, Plantashun Boiz, and of course, a lot of Fela Kuti, so those early influences shaped my style. Coming in, I already knew that I would do things differently. That’s why much of my music has always been laced with activism,” he said.
