When will Nollywood-Bollywood film ‘Namaste Wahala’ be released?

Namaste wahala

Of all the Nollywood films pushed back because of the coronavirus pandemic last year, Namaste Wahala, a romantic comedy by Indian director Hamisha Daryani Ahuja, is yet to be released. A highly anticipated film ever since its official movie poster hit social media released last February, Namaste Wahala finds both Nollywood and Bollywood, two huge film industry giants, joining forces to make a cinematic spectacle.

The plot is about a joint Nigerian-Indian wedding, and given how both Indians and Nigerians are known for exaggerated, over-the-top weddings, it’s easy to see why this cross-cultural productions has been met with so much fever. The film stars Nigerian actor Ini Dima-Okoji and India’s Ruslaan Mumtaz in the lead roles and while postponed Nollywood films have enjoyed theatrical releases as soon as cinemas could start running, Namaste Wahala has conspicuously been left out.

In a reflective New Year message posted on Instagram, director Hamisha Daryani Ahuja counted her blessings despite an unsavoury 2020 and then addressed the elephant in the room: her film Namaste Wahala. She didn’t say much, other than it will be released this year and no one knows when exactly.

Will it come to Netflix? No one knows either. But one thing is for sure: it’s going to be worth it.
