Will Smith’s accent tries to be Nigerian in new movie ‘Concussion’

Dr. Bennet Omalu is a pretty important guy in the world of sports–he discovered and named Chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), basically brain disease that happens when your gets repeatedly rattled around in your skull violently enough that your brain begins to degenerate.

Dr Omalu discovered the disease in American football players and was harassed by the NFL, who tried to shut him up.

So, Who did they get to play Dr Omalu? Someone close to his physical description–Forest Whitaker perhaps?

Nope. They went with Will Smith. Who then blessed us with an accent no Nigerian will recognise, and I’m not sure anyone on the rest of the African continent will recognise it either.

Meanwhile, the actual Nigerian in the film Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje plays Dave Duerson, who died from CTE complications.

Tell us what you think. Does he nail it?
