You have no choice: NYSC says corps members must go to the North

by Hauwa Gambo

If you ever though the series of violent acts in trouble spots across the country would make the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) exercise caution in posting young people that way? Well, perish the thought.

According to a statement signed by the by the Director (Corps Mobilisation), Mary Kolajo, and available at the NYSC Headquarters in Abuja, all corps members who want to be re-posted – including the hundreds who stormed its offices yesterday – will have to report in camp first.

With that instruction, she instructed all Batch ‘B’ youth corps members to immediately proceed to their orientation camps, insisting that they will be safe. This includes states like Borno and Yobe where students and young people have been killed in the past.

“The military, the police and Nigeria Civil Defence Corps have all assured us of security of corps members,” said the NYSC Deputy Director in charge of Publicity, Peter Atilola. “So there is no cause for alarm.”

No cause for alarm. Are these guys kidding us?!
