We have fully and truly ‘suffered’ as David Cameron calls Nigeria a ‘fantastically corrupt country’ (WATCH)

It is finally clear now why President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria was invited to attend the 2016 Anti Corruption Summit scheduled to hold in London.

President Buhari is billed to show up at the summit alongside over 60 other world leaders to discuss various measures and reforms that can help kickback corruption across the world.

In a video leaked on the internet, the reason why the host country, Britain extended an invitation to the summit to Nigeria is made quite clear.

The British prime minister, David Cameron probably unaware that he is being filmed, told Queen Elizabeth that they would be hosting the leaders of “some fantastically corrupt country”.

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, who was involved in the conversation was obviously not comfortable with the direction it was headed even as Cameron further singled out Afghanistan and Nigeria as the two most corrupt countries in the world.

The words of the prime minister would ordinarily by all standards be an insult to the polity of Nigeria but with the several cans of worms opened by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission since the advent of the Buhari-led administration, any outcry against Cameron would be tantamount to unwarranted rage.

While some might argue that his branding of Nigeria as one of the two most corrupt countries in the world is politically incorrect, the truth remains that even the Federal Government has in several instances declared that it would take the help of God to clear the rot that has eaten into the fabric of the Nigerian system.

Furthermore, the president of the country, Buhari has absolutely no problem playing the ‘war against corruption‘ card every time he faces a bank of cameras or is being interviewed by a reporter from BBC or a foreign media house.

If the president of the country constantly reminds Nigerians and by default, the rest of the world of the monumental corruption that has enveloped the country every chance he gets, how would anyone expect David Cameron not to catch on to the vibe?

So before anyone raises the voice of criticism to bash Cameron, it would be fair to remember that it is the same Nigeria where the alleged loot of funds meant to arm soldiers against Boko Haram insurgents among other blood curdling revelations of public looting were politicized and turned into a media jamboree.
