Drones will be used for Edo election – Army

Barely a week to the Edo governorship election security agencies are putting final touches in ensuring a hitch free process.

As part its plans, the Nigeria Army says it would use drones during the September 28 governorship election in Edo State, The Punch reports.

This was disclosed by the Commander of the 4 Brigade Command, Brigadier General Raji Benbela, during a show of force organised in collaboration with the Nigeria Police and other security agencies in Benin.

Benbela said the drones would be used in the 18 local government areas of the state to expose the activities of criminals.

He said, “In addition, (the) governorship election is around the corner and the Nigerian Army, in its constitutional responsibility in support to civil authority, has ‎a duty to protect lives and property of citizens.

“This is what informed the decision to organise this exercise in collaboration with sister security agencies, with a view to giving the electorate the confidence to exercise their franchise.”
