A hawker was on Wednesday run over by a BRT bus while being chased by officials of Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI).

The deceased hawker was caught crossing the Ikorodu expressway without making use of a pedestrian bridge.

KAI operatives across Lagos state have over the years developed a habit of chasing down pedestrians who cross expressways instead of using a pedestrian flyover bridge.

Whether the KAI operatives were justified in chasing the hawker is a conundrum waiting to be unearthed.

However, a human life has been brought to an untimely end by the actions of government agents and that in itself is a tragedy that probably trumps any justification.

The man was reportedly run over by a BRT bus while trying to escape from the KAI operatives who were hot on his pursuit.

He died instantly.

In reaction to the death of the hawker, onlookers and witnesses of the tragedy went into a fit of rage and staged a riot in protest.
