Why the Nigerian Senate won’t screen ministers today

On Tuesday, when the Senate resumed the ministerial screening, only two nominees, Adebayo Shittu and Khadijat Abba, were attended to.

The Senate would state through its spokesperson, Dino Melaye, that it chose to reduce the number of nominees to be screened daily, in order to be thorough with the process.

After the plenary sitting of Tuesday, it was announced that the Senate had adjourned sitting to Wednesday, October 21.

However, it was subsequently announced by the Acting Clerk of the Senate, Nelson Oyewo, that the next plenary session will be Thursday, October 22.

The shift of plenary session was necessitated out of a need for Senate President, Bukola Saraki, to appear at the Code of Conduct Tribunal on Wednesday.

The Senate President is facing a 13 count charge of false asset declaration while he served as Governor of Kwara state.
