128 policemen killed in the last 3 months – IGP

The Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim Idris has bemoaned the killing of officers and men in the course of discharging their statutory duties.

Idris said the deaths of the police from unwarranted attacks by religious bigot, bandits, hoodlums and militants must be reversed and the trend halted.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police spokesman, DCP Don Awunah, Idris said 128 policemen have been killed in the last three months.

The statement read, “In the past three months, the Force has lost one hundred and twenty eight (128) personnel in various parts of the country due to activities of these undesirable elements in our communities.

“Also disturbing, is the wanton destruction of Police infrastructure and public assets. The recent cases in Dankamoji village in Maradu LGA of Zamfara state, Abagana in Anambra state and in Okrika waterways in Rivers state where personnel were killed, arms carted away, structures and equipment destroyed are cases in point,” he said.

The police boss condoled with the families of the offices, saying their departure will not be in vain.

Idris urged the officers not to relent or be distracted in our collective will to serve this country, the costly challenges notwithstanding.
