A 24-hour curfew has taken effect in Offa and Erin-Ile in Offa and Oyun local government councils of Kwara State.

The Secretary to the state government, Alhaji Isiaka Gold, in a statement on Wednesday, said this was necessary to restore public order and to prevent further destruction of properties in the communities.

About 10 people were feared dead and property worth millions of naira reportedly destroyed on Monday, following a renewed clash between members the two communities.

A statement released said the state government was going to charge anyone who disrupts public order or otherwise spurs violence in any part of the state under any guise.

“While assuring law-abiding citizens of its resolve to secure lives and properties, the state government is determined to identify and prosecute those behind the recent crises in both communities,” the statement read.

  1. I think the kwara state government are playing politics with peoples life and property. How can a curfew work without military presence to enforce it. The announcement is just a prank.
