The Bayelsa supplementary election holding in the Southern Ijaw local government area of the state, has shown several signs of being violent.
The tussle for the governorship of Bayelsa state- between incumbent Seriake Dickson and challenger Timipre Sylva, has thus far, been hotly contested.
While supporters of the All Progressives Congress and Peoples Democratic Party candidates have had a few skirmishes, the house of the Bayelsa state Speaker in Southern Ijaw, was attacked with explosives on Thursday, January 7.
A day prior to the supplementary election, the former speaker of Bayelsa, Boyelayefa Debekeme, Special Assistant to the governor of Bayelsa State, Tam Alari and Chairman of Ekeremor LGA Hon, Billy Tobiyei, were involved in a bloody altercation at the governor’s lodge in Ekeremor.
They all sustained matchete wounds in the fight that was primarily between the supporters of the APC and PDP at the governor’s lodge.
