PDP crisis: NJC dismisses Makarfi’s petition against Justice Abang

The National Judicial Council has said Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court in Abuja did no wrong in his verdicts on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) crisis.

In a statement by its Secretary, Danladi Halilu, the council dismissed allegations of gross misconduct by the Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led faction of the party.

Justice Abang had declared the Makarfi-led Caretaker Committee of the PDP illegal.

He then recognized Ali Modu Sheriff as the authentic leader of the party.

The council in the statement said, “At the end of deliberations, the council found that your petition finds no merit as there was no sufficient material before the NJC to infer that the judge sat on appeal over the decision of his brother judge of coordinate jurisdiction.

“The appeal therefore lacked merit and is subsequently dismissed”.
