It’s interesting to note that the name Burna Boy, has been around for close to a decade now. His first album LIFE, was released in 2013, and his mix-tapes had been out, two years prior. The perception on this then-upcoming artiste, was, that he focused on feel good music, and was doing well for his league.
Fast forward five years later, and this artiste is spotting the number one record in the country; YE. But it wouldn’t be till he uttered those words; “African Giant” that the world will truly begin to pay attention.
Since burnaboy corrected Coachella about who he was. he has gone on to perform amazingly and proved to the world that yes “many many people done try am, but can nobody do it than him the African giant.” Congratulations @burnaboy on your BET AWARDS 2020. pic.twitter.com/UYDBQqTndK

Ever since drawing so much attention to himself based on his reaction to Coachella, giving him a tiny spot on the show’s promotional flyer, he has been a highly distinguished figure. Rejecting Coachella’s invitation, over what he believed to be a misrepresentation of his current status, was the most ballsy thing Burnaboy could have done for his career.
Releasing hit after hit, bagging both local and international awards, and speaking on current issues, Burna Boy has done everything in his power to silence those who called him over ambitious for claiming to be an African Giant. Nowadays, when mentioning the biggest music acts in Nigeria, you can’t simply ignore the man who was once perceived as nothing but a feel good musician.

Earlier today, Burna Boy became the center of discussion in the Nigerian music scene after securing another BET Award, for the second time in a row. He is the only African to do so, giving him yet another milestone to cement his African Giant status. Reactions since then has ranged from celebrating the artiste to comparing him with other big name singers.
Burna Boy deserves every award he’s getting.

Also the fact that he spoke on the prominence of the African community in relation to the current Black Lives Matter movement, was delightful for Africans to hear.
“In order for Black lives to matter, Africa must matter.” @burnaboy speaks with the giant voice and when the giant speaks everyone must listen.
