Abike Dabiri-Erewa couldn’t resist calling out Elisah Abbo for assaulting a woman without politicising it

If you have been out of the loop, Premium Times released footage showing Elisah Abbo physically assaulting a woman in an adult store in Abuja. Abbo is the senator representing Adamawa North senatorial district, on the platform of the PDP and the viral video has generated a frenzied buzz on social media, overwhelmingly calling for the senator to be removed from his position with the appropriate punishment meted out to him. Here’s the video, in case you haven’t seen it:

It’s quite hard to believe to see a newly-elected senator publicly assaulting a woman, in the presence of policeman who stood by and did nothing. And the irony is that his senatorial win was at the expense of Binta Marsi Garba of the APC, who was the only Northern female lawmaker in the Senate. And Abike Dabiri-Erewa pointed it out in her tweet:

Sure, Abbo deserves to be punished for his disgusting behaviour, Dabiri-Erewa shouldn’t have used the moment to score cheap political points, which has been a tactic so ingrained in our political structure. It’s not a good look on her position, overseeing diaspora affairs and even for our politics in general.
