Why PDP’s National Convention was suspended

The Peoples Democratic Party has officially called off its national convention which was scheduled to hold today in Port Harcourt, Rivers state.

The build up to the convention had been marred with several conflicts between members of the party and the founding fathers of the party.

While this convention was billed to hold in Port Harcourt, another group led by Professor Jerry Gana scheduled their convention for today in Abuja.

Announcing the suspension of the convention, Ali Modu Sheriff said, “This is to inform our supporters nationwide, all the delegates to the National Convention in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State that the National Convention has been suspended.”

“This is due to the numerous court cases and the directives from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to supervise elections into some offices. The 2016 Natonal Convention is suspended to allow time for the cases in court to be resolved. The Party regrets any inconveniences arising from this suspension.”
