APC chieftain in paternity fight, threatens to invoke the gods on his ‘father’

Prince Kelechi Apugo, a chieftain of the All Progressives Grand Alliance in Abia State has threatened to call the wrath of the deities upon his father for disowning him.

Kelechi is the son of the top statesman, Chief Benjamin Apugo and he desperately wants to be accorded the full rights of a first son.

He said the motivation behind his decision to invoke the deities on his father is to forcefully secure full rights as a first son in accordance to the Igbo tradition.

Apugo contested the Umuahia East State Constituency in the April 2015 general election against his two half-brothers in PDP and APC.

He revealed that the height of the embarrassment was when his father disowned him through a sworn affidavit, a document which his brothers used against him during the campaigns.

He said: “I am the first son of Chief B. B. Apugo. I want the whole world to know that since I was born that my father refused to recognise me as his first son.”

“On several occasions, I have made effort to meet him but he denied me access. He completely abandoned me when I was seven years old. I don’t know why he doesn’t have value for his children. My mother took me to him and he refused to listen to her.”

“But I want him to know that I am now a man, I have a family of my own with children and I must get my right as his first son. I will not go to court. I will throw deities into his compound and his other properties and he knows the implication.”

He further said: “Why must my father swear affidavit against me; I am the carbon copy of my father. I have made all efforts for my father to accept me, but he blocked me on all occasions. Now, I have decided to get my right by all means.”

“To this end, I have reported my father to Ibeku traditional rulers, the powerful Okonko group, his kindred and others that have affinity with his father, and all of them support my plans to secure my birth right.”

Chief Apugo doesn’t appear inclined to changing his mind. When contacted through his media aide, he clearly stated that he would not change his position on the issue.

Another son of Chief Apugo has dismissed Kelechi’s claims, stating that his father had always insisted his step-brother was not his son.

He said, “My father knows the Igbo tradition so well and he is a man that keeps facts. In fact, he has just dismissed those claims by Kelechi Apugo.”
