Army destroys illegal refinery, arrests two persons in Edo

The Nigerian Army 4 Brigade command has arrested two suspected illegal refinery operators in Uhunmwode Local Government Area of Edo State.

The Brigade Commander, Brigadier-General Ibrahim Garba, who led the team said one of those arrested was a lady who had gone to the illegal refinery to buy diesel.

He said the operators were scooping crude from a broken crude oil pipeline belonging to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.

He added that pipes used for the distribution of the refined products to tankers were abandoned by the operators who fled.

Garba said over 300,000 litres of crude oil and other refined products were destroyed.

He added that the army will not tolerate sabotage of the economy.
