Augustine Eguavoen, head coach of Gombe United, and Dolphins goalkeeper and captain, Sunday Rotimi, have been named the ‘Manager and Player of the League Bloggers Awards (LBA) for the month of August.

The pair posted impressive results with their teams in the ongoing Glo Premier League season last month. Eguavoen won the manager’s award by beating out Kadiri Ikhana of Enyimba, Mohammed Baba Ganaru of Nasarawa United and Stanley Eguma of Dolphins.

Gombe United got 12 points in August including an away win at Bayelsa United, which saw them climb out of the bottom four.

Enyimba and Dolphins finished August unbeaten but could only gain 11 and 9 points respectively, while Ganaru’s Nasarawa United amassed 10 points for the month under review.

In the player award category, Rotimi edged out Osaguona Ighodaro (Enugu Rangers), Ugwu Uwadiegwu (Enyimba), Emem Eduok (Dolphins), Julius Ubido (Heartland), Austin Ekpoma (Gombe United), Olayinka Onaolapo (Nasarawa United) and Nzube Anaezemba (Enyimba).

Rotimi kept four clean sheets out of five games in August including a penalty save at Sunshine Stars that helped his club secure a point and clean sheet. He conceded just a goal in five matches in August, which made him favourite to win the award of LBA Player of August.

The plaques will be presented to both Eguavoen and Rotimi in September by the LBA.
