Nollywood actress, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde today hosted Chude Jideonwo, the author of the critically acclaimed book, ‘Are We The Turning Point Generation?’ on this month’s edition of #OsexyFriday.

#OsexyFriday is an interview format Twitter conversation which seeks to distill the opinions of young, emerging thought leaders.

The conversation which lasted two hours had Jideonwo speaking about the main thrust of the book which is meant to raise the level of discussion on Nigeria’s future and the imperatives of achieving the needed development.

When asked about the role of youth in changing Nigeria for the better, Jideonwo, the co-founder of The Future Awards Africa & Summit (TFAAS), said contrary to widely held belief, there is nothing about youth that makes them changemakers.

“It is deception, really, to think we will change Nigeria simply because we are young. That’s lazy. The truth is that there is nothing about youth that makes us immediately changemakers,” he said.

While responding to a question on what is needed for change, Jideonwo said the critical element that will change Nigeria for the better is competent leadership.

He said, “It is a network of leaders with competence, character and empowered citizens who hold them to account that will change Nigeria.

“That’s why the work people like Enough is Enough Nigeria is doing is so important. We have to let our leaders know that we have the power to choose and refuse… and that we will exercise it. Our leaders must constantly live in fear that if they don’t do their jobs, we will not let them be in any way,” he said.

Jideonwo disclosed the imminent launch of the website, www.howcanigetinvolved.com, a platform established to aid individuals in getting information on organizations working for change in Nigeria.

Jalade-Ekeinde rounded-off the engaging conversation by urging the press to be an integral part of the change we seek. She thanked Jideonwo for chairing the September edition of #OSexyFriday conversation.

Chude Jideonwo will, on Saturday at 5pm, host a book reading at the Terra Kulture, Tiamiyu Savage, Victoria Island, Lagos. The event which will be moderated by multi-talented music video director, Kemi Adetiba, is in continuation of the ‘Are We The Turning Point Generation?’ book tour which has been hosted in many major cities around the world including Abuja, New York, London, Paris, Johannesburg and more.
