BLOG: Mother kills daughter in high speed police chase

A mother who was allegedly on drugs is now going to spend the rest of her life regretting her behavior. Errika Dominique Shelton killed her 7-year-old daughter, Queniya Tykia Shelton, during a high speed chase from South Carolina Police.  The little girl was ejected from the car and died at the scene.

Police say that this was not the first time that Shelton has run from police.  She did the same with Georgia police in 2011 and hit two cars, according to Operation Rolling Thunder.  She only stopped when she ran out of gas, according to police.

In this case, the mother was wanted by the police in Greenville for failing to appear in court on charges that she’d failed to stop when officers tried to pull her over.

Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright says that he has lost sleep over the death of the little girl.

“We want to send a message though that if you run from us in Spartanburg County, you’re going to get caught,” he said.

Erikka Shelton is in the hospital recovering from her injuries.  She faces several charges related to the incident, including: failure to stop for blue light resulting in death, driving under suspension third and subsequent, unlawful neglect of a child, reckless driving, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, and habitual traffic offender.
